When a computer “hack” gets syndicated by Tripwire, you know it's getting bad. The latest bad news comes from reading that a popular, open source application server is the target. Ideally, you should have leaned back in your chair with a sigh of relief, but given the plethora of hearsay, articles, and blogs, it was clear that public reaction wasn’t one of relief.

Since the explosion of the mobile web and the rise of responsive web design, the elephant in the room has been images. Why is that? 1. Mobile devices typically have limited bandwidth 2. Mobile devices have limited processing power

CITYTECH, Inc. has partnered with OC Systems, who provides a great product called RootCause Transaction Instrumentation (RTI), as their Application Management (APM) Solution, which is designed to support the performance of mission critical applications. We were introduced to OC Systems and RTI through our mutual relationship with Red Hat and JBoss. Since learning about their offering, we have worked with many clients who have been able to find a significant amount of value in implementing RTI.

AWS's Elastic Load Balancers (ELBs) have often had issues with services that cache DNS lookups. Akamai is an example of one service where we have had to deal with this. As you may already know, lookups against an ELB's DNS address can return several IPs, and each of these IPs correspond to a particular Availability Zone (AZ). This offers you the conventional DNS round-robin method of load balancing. When these IPs are cached, however, there have often been problems with Akamai edge servers.

Testing and targeting are two hot strategies for web content optimization. They are also often misunderstood, misused, or disregarded. This post will provide a 10,000-foot view of testing, targeting, and content optimization. This isn’t anything new or groundbreaking, but it’s something that many marketers don't "get". My goal is to help you understand what they are and why they are important. Then we can talk about putting these strategies into action.

Everyday when I walk to work I pass by this display for the new MOTO X phone which has a cool, interactive display that lets you build and customize the phone. Their whole goal for this new phone is to not be the top of the line in specs or power, but to deliver a great user experience. To be personal. You can customize the colors and accents of the phone and even add your own little tag line to the outside casing. The goal is to make you feel more connected to your phone because you made it yours. This reminds me of how we want our online experiences to be -- personal.

The AWS re:Invent conference is just around the corner and there are several things our CITYTECH Cloud Managed Services team is looking forward to: 1. New feature announcements. AWS is always in the process of improving their offerings, adding new features as well as enhancing their existing services. As an AWS premier partner, we have gotten a small glimpse into some of the new offerings but are looking forward to all of the official announcements. We will be able to implement many of their features immediately. Anything that gives us the ability to be more preformat and in turn offer those benefits to our customers is exciting.

Inversion of Control (IoC) is an amazing design pattern. IoC aims to remove static coupling of objects from one another at compile time in lieu of run-time resolved, object interactions based on contracts, or interfaces. Apache Felix implements this pattern with its Dependency Manager.

I am happy to announce that CITYTECH has been awarded the APN Managed Service Provider (MSP) competency by Amazon Web Services (AWS). The APN competencies are AWS partner designations, designed to differentiate partners who have developed expertise in specific solutions areas. AWS has worked to set a high threshold for their partners (CITYTECH is one of only 10 global partners to be awarded the MSP competency).
